Welcome to La Medusa 73, a hidden gem nestled within the vibrant Mercat del Ninot, located at Carrer de Mallorca, 135 in the heart of Eixample, Barcelona. This seafood restaurant offers an immersive culinary experience that is both fresh and authentic, making it a must-visit for seafood lovers. With its unique concept of allowing customers to select their fish directly from the market, La Medusa 73 transforms the simple act of dining into an intimate and personalized adventure.
The first thing that strikes you upon entering is the atmosphere—though some may find it lacking in buzz, there’s a certain charm to the market's backdrop. Here, the chefs are not just cooks; they are passionate artisans who let the quality of their ingredients shine. Diners often rave about the exceptional freshness of the seafood, with dishes like garlic shrimp and tender scallops frequently mentioned as highlights. Each bite transports you deeper into the essence of Mediterranean cuisine.
Guests like Chien-Chih Pan have praised the remarkable texture of the toro, comparing it to high-quality beef—a testimony to the kitchen's expertise. The paella, a traditional staple, has been declared the best by many, with loyal customers swearing off other versions outside of Spain. Seasonal fish varieties and specials play a significant role in the menu, ensuring every visit is a new discovery.
While it is often noted that La Medusa 73 may be on the pricier side, the quality you receive offers significant value, particularly when compared to other more budget-friendly options in Barcelona. Here, you are not just eating; you’re experiencing the very best of the local seafood scene. Customers note that the friendly and humorous staff add an extra touch of hospitality, making each meal feel like a special occasion.
If you’re looking to enjoy a refreshing drink, their wine selection perfectly complements the flavors of the dishes, and the beer on tap is an excellent pairing option. As Will Weitzer points out, the restaurant’s location within a bustling market allows diners to transition seamlessly from feasting to exploring other culinary treasures. Whether you're in the mood for tapas, a whole grilled fish, or a beautiful plate of fideuà, La Medusa 73 has you covered.
To sum it up, when in Barcelona, La Medusa 73 should not just be a pitstop but rather a highlight of your culinary journey. With delectable dishes crafted from the freshest ingredients and an inviting atmosphere, it promises an unforgettable dining experience filled with the rich flavors of the Mediterranean. Speechlessly delicious… super fresh and high quality ingredients, the team makes best use of them. The texture of toro is like high quality beef; here I learn what authentic and nice paella should taste like: I think I won’t eat any paella out of Spain again. Wine selection is nice and fits the dishes. The staff is friendly and humorous. Cooking in front of customers: best atmosphere to enjoy their gourmet. Will absolutely come back again!!

The scallops and garlic shrimps are exceptional. The black rice is okay, though it might just be me not being a big fan of seafood rice, as the flavour of its sauce always tastes a bit ambiguous to me. A bit expensive compared to the many tasty and more budget-friendly options in town.

Been traveling to Barcelona for over 29 years and I have to say, La Medusa 73 is one of the best seafood restaurants I always like to go to when I visit. They have great atmosphere in the Ninot Market, where I can enjoy a wonderful meal and also shop at the other vendors in the market for excellent ingredients to enjoy cooking and eating back at home. Came in today and was delighted by the wonderful staff. Very friendly and helpful and attentive to detail. They have a fish market alongside their food restaurant, so you can either buy it and take it home to cook (best to come in the morning for this part) or you save yourself the work and lets their professional chef and cooks do the hard work for you. They have beer on tap, and good wine as well to keep your thirst quenched and their work is not only delicious, it is beautiful. They can cook you a whole fresh fish in a couple different ways, they have tapas and the seafood here is never fishy. You must try their specials and seasonal fish offerings. When you are visiting the market for food supplies and get hungry or just in the mood for a great seafood meal, La Medusa 73 will never disappoint. They even make a great paella or a fideua if you want a nice pan of traditional cuisine for 2 or even 3. Have a wonderful time living in or traveling to Barcelona And 100% make a stop here for a great meal. Yum diddly Yum YUM! :-) Thank you for taking the time to read my review and hope you enjoy the delicious photos of the food we enjoyed and saw being delivered. Happy Eating my fellow Foodies!

Excellent seafood, incredible quality. The chefs are all amazing and constantly cooking away with passion behind the counter. Highly recommend this place. The cockles were incredibly fresh, and not overloaded with garlic like they usually are in most places - it let the true quality and flavour shine through. The fried fish was the best we had in Barcelona.

The paella was so yummy and when you are here you must give the red shrimps a try they are amazing as well as the Paraden bomba. I see many locals come here so better be early because this restaurant is popular. Service was very friendly too.

One of the best places to eat in a market. The people are so friendly and obviously love what they do. It’s simple, quality food at decent prices. Go early to avoid queuing for a space!!
